Creation by Lorenzo Quinn
“I believe in God but above all I believe in having a clear conscience. While far from perfect, man has been created to be perfect. It has always amazed me to see how ancient cultures, such as the Egyptians, were able to create the perfect forms of the pyramids and how nature itself has created such perfect forms as the simple shape of an egg. This shows me that man and nature could be in perfect symbiosis. We do not constitute the higher ring of creation; we are instead simply part of a wonderful homogeneous chain, the chain of life. Artists such as Michelangelo and Salvador Dalí, have successfully represented the creation of the perfect being and its closeness to divinity. This sculpture is my clear tribute to the two great masters, but especially to Dalí, to whom I owe my initiation in the art world and in memoriam to his birth a century ago.” Lorenzo Quinn
Pyramids, eggs, Michelangelo….they’re all here. Every religious, scientific, artistic and cultural reference points to the dawning of time and that age-old question regarding what came first, why, when and how.
Ok, that may be reading a little too much into famed contemporary sculpture, Lorenzo Quinn’s most recent 3-D art expose, but there’s no denying that he’s attempted to cover all angles in the visual approximation entitled, ‘Creation’.
This limited edition bronze by Quinn is presented at 30cms in height and boasting a diameter of 17cms, whilst it’s offered both numbered and individually singed by the artist himself and would make a fascinating addition to any urban lifestyle space as well as providing an excellent conversational piece.
